BORN FROM THE SEA
Segara Liveaboard was born from a deep love for Labuan Bajo, a place where land, sea, and sky meet in the most magical way. The story began in 2016, when a young traveler first discovered the untouched beauty of Komodo National Park. Captivated by its dramatic landscapes, vibrant marine life, and the unique experience of exploring the islands by boat, he started organizing trips to share the wonder of this destination with others.
As the connection to the sea grew stronger, so did the dream to build something more meaningful: a phinisi boat that would carry not just guests, but stories, memories, and a genuine sense of adventure. In 2018, that dream took shape with the start of construction in Ara Village, Bulukumba, South Sulawesi, a place known for its rich heritage in traditional phinisi boatbuilding. After two years of dedication and craftsmanship, the boat was completed in 2020.
The name Segara was chosen with heart. Derived from Sanskrit, Segara means “ocean”, and it also honors the birth of the founder’s first child, who came into the world during the same period the boat was being built. It became a symbol of two great beginnings — a child and a vessel — both created out of love, hope, and a deep connection to nature.
Segara Liveaboard reflects the belief that Labuan Bajo is one of Indonesia’s most extraordinary treasures — a place of wild beauty, thriving underwater ecosystems, and unforgettable sailing adventures. Every journey with Segara is a celebration of that spirit: simple, authentic, and crafted to bring people closer to the ocean and to each other.
